A special family fun day was held in Ynysybwl to bring the entire community together to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the closure of the Lady Windsor Colliery.

The Summer event started at 11am with a parade led by the Swansea Pipe & Drum Band from Glyn Street to the Colliery Monument where a short service was held.

Introduction to the service was by Colonel Huw James. Reverend Eryl Williams (who recently became a Pastor) gave the short service . The Abercynon male Voice Choir sang at the service. Garin Jenkins the last miner to play for Wales also attended.

Also featured in the parade were the Lodge Banners which were kindly loaned by Pontypridd Museum. Representatives of the Durham NUM and Tower Colliery also attended to support the unique event.

1.15pm - Wonderbrass: Wonderbrass formed in 1992 as a community street band from Pontypridd South Wales.
Today they are bigger, bolder and brassier (pun intended) than ever before. Under the expert leadership of instrumentalist and composer Rob Smith and drummer extraordinaire Mark O’Connor, Wonderbrass are constantly evolving and exploring new musical challenges.
Expect an intoxicating mix of jazz, Latin, ska and s...oul; a diverse repertoire including Cannonball Adderley, Abdulah Ibrahim and Madonna whilst indulging in a number of their own compositions along the way.
Having enjoyed a number of successful and ongoing collaborations with international musicians such as Claude Deppa, King Django, Jason Yarde and South Africa’s very own Amampondo, Wonderbrass are always seeking to thrill audiences both at home and abroad, in their unique style that once heard will never be forgotten… They’ve got to be seen to be believed!

2.15pm - Mixalydia: Taking time out from their London gigs to perform at the Ynysybwl Festival. The fast rising Mixalydia are four friends from the Rhondda Valleys. Since the release of their single "SHE" they have been featured on BBC Radio Wales and performed a storming set at Radio 1's Huw Stephens' "London Welsh Sessions". Music which tastes like Indie-Rock, is said to be served by Mixalydia. In a live setting - Beatles inspired harmonies meets the energy of Nirvana. 3.30pm - 12 Strings: A brilliant acoustic duo from the Rhondda. They write their own material, but also put their own twist on some "classic" pop songs. Not to be missed!

4.30pm - Bullitt Band: Bullitt blues Revival are a classic five Piece Blues/rock band taking influence from the Trans-Atlantic Blues Revival music of the Late Sixty's and early Seventies. Staying true to the Style of music 'Bullitt' take pride in creating an authentic experience with spontaneous interplay that often branches out from the original format of the songs.

5.45pm - Nev McDonald, Neil Garland & Friends: After 25 years apart SKIN front man Neville Macdonald has reunited with his old friend and song writing partner Neil Garland. Half of the Welsh rock band KOOGA they received great acclaim locally, nationally, and around Europe with the release of their debut album ACROSS THE WATER in1986.
After the band split Nev. moved on to even greater success with UK rockers SKIN. Several chart albums and singles in the 90,s saw the band climb into the major league with TV appearances and main stage listing at many of the UK’s top rock festivals. After a ten year break SKIN reunited in 2009 to release a new album followed up with tours and appearances at The Download and High Voltage festivals in 2011.
Neil has continued playing and recording with various bands on the Welsh scene mixing the genres of blues, rock, jazz, funk, and more recently a fusion four piece reworking the music of Steely Dan.
Hand Of Dimes is a return to a more soulful blues rooted form of song writing which the pair began developing before forming the band KOOGA
Moving away from the pomp keyboard based sound of the eighties band to a more earthy acoustic rock feel but still maintaining the powerful vocals that Nev. has developed over the years. www.handofdimes.com to see their Facebook Page click >>HERE<<
